"And i hope you'll come back soon"
That is what i'm saying to Rilo Kiley, it's not about Jenny and Blake doing their own projects, but i just want to get them to re-release The Initial Friend.
I mean, come on! I have downloaded some of the tracks, but i feel so sleazy for doing it....I'm the kind of guy who likes authentic things, i will buy a cd just for the album art etc.
Please please please can you all get together with me and plead for a re-release of this album!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It would make sense, huh?
Sorry for rambling a bit, but i am a bit drunk and i love Rilo Kiley more than my adopted Etheopian bush child.
P.S. Apologies if a thread like this has already been posted. |

I don't give a shit either way, really. I already have it in loseless format so it's as good as the real thing as far as I'm concerned and I don't have to feel guilt (okay, I'll be honest, I don't often feel guilt for downloading/copying CDs, but you see what I'm getting at).
If they rereleased it, I'd buy it because it's rilo kiley. However, I can understand them not wanting to. Even though it's a rerelease, there'd still be alot of people with an expectation that they would tour it and they clearly don't really want to play any of those songs anymore. I know they play the frug, but it seems begrudgingly. _________________ the music that I want

Ya know, this comes up so often and even though I don't (and probably never will) have a copy, i still don't want it reissued. I feel like most bands do a reissue to plain make money and thats it, and i just dont see RK doing that. they got what they needed out of it and they are done with it. there's something special about it, even for those that don't have it, and i think that would be diminished somewhat by a reissue. just my thoughts though. _________________ whee |

Very well said. I completely agree. It's just not necessary to reissue it. |

it would be cool if they re-released it but you cant expect bands to release all their old eps. Thats what makes them special and gives the hardcore fans and longterm fans something no one else will ever have _________________ You talk like you're drunk

I have only gotten in to them within the last few months. I can understand them not wanting to rerelease it, but if it is done in a package that includes their b-sides, soundtrack songs, unreleased songs, live stuff etc., then I think it would be worthwhile. Unfortunately, at least around here, people looking for Rilo Kiley cds are only going to find More Adventurous. They will think this is their only work. I hope that at some point, all of their cds will get the deluxe reissue treatment with bonus tracks. _________________ Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a night on the town ?

Sure the fact that it's rare makes it somehow that much more special, but it's still a real good CD, though Rilo Kiley has come a long way. Music is something that is meant to be shared, and experienced, so on that account, yes re-release it. But is it really Rilo Kiley anymore? Is it the band or just a memory a time-capsule of what the band was? Whether or not it makes it onto the shelves again, which it probably won't, I'll live.
Though I myself would pay quite a hefty sum to lay my mitts on one of those elusive bad boys...

I'm not sure I have anything to add here other than agreeing with Kelley, Beth, and Cam, among others.
It's not that hard - there's certainly enough threads with people offering up IM and email transfers of the tracks - to get ahold of the songs themselves, and I definitely don't think we need to feel sleazy about that when they're not otherwise available.
And I, too, am someone that has a thing about owning the actual record - I've purchased Take Offs and The Decemberists' Picaresque twice each for that reason, but I think the real appeal in owning Initial Friend - and especially that release as opposed to say, the (better! ) 2nd pressing of Rilo Kiley - is in its incredible rarity. There's just no magic in a reissue, you know?
Sorry to join in on raining on your parade! I - as ever - have it if you want a copy of any missing tracks. I *think* I have it lossless, too... I feel like I might have actually gotten it from Beth, but I can't remember. |

I've never sent it to anyone in lossless. I got mine from Gav. I had it in lower quality before.
I'm surprised he hasn't popped up on this thread offering it yet. He'll send you all the files of all the different version in lossless for the cost. Pretty sweet deal. _________________ the music that I want

A la "Sister" re-issue by Letters To Cleo... although they did put 4 bonus tracks on and it's a really good CD. And even the re-issue is a bit of a collectors item these days. Although I guess that's a bit different since the original was only ever available on cassette.
Personally I think a re-issue of The Initial Friend would be a good thing - the bonus tracks could be the songs from the earlier EPs that didn't make it (e.g. Steve and Teenage Love Song). Maybe a limited edition re-mastered version available exclusively through the band's website?? |
