Alcohol Abuse

Should alcohol be licensed similar to guns. Seeing as how it is accounting for
nearly 40% of crime in the UK i think it would be a decent idea. It will
reduce crime, lower unwanted pregnancies stop these god damn binge drinking
idiots. Now the licensing proccess should be easy yet stern in stopping stupid
people drinking. Now the idea of a alcohol test centre is funny but is this
what we need. Im thinking a card or measuring item of some sort that ur local
pub/club can give you. It warns you when youve drunk too much and give you
access to reputable cab drivers or police to get you home safe. A drink
monitor of somesort, without which you cannot buy alcohol. This monitor
ensures you dont buy in excess and that kids dont get access to it. You will of
course have to register it but that would take 10 minutes or so. Im sick and
tired of hearing drunkards scream abuse at me, im tired of driving behind drunk
people and this countries lifestyle is becoming so mela!
nochly pathetic something needs doing. Kids at the age 15-16 arent worried
about girls, or trivial things such as football anymore all they wanna do is
drink alchol and get smashed.

My view was strengthened at Uni. This blokes situation has changed drastically
within two months, hes voice is slurred and slow and has an inability to answer
wuestions first tim around. This i largely attribute to alcohol abuse.

Im not einstein nor am i Homer Simpson but surely people must agree that alcohol
has become a seriously dangerous issue for the young people of today. And by
young i mean people up to the 25 age group.

That would be an increadibly expensive program to put in place.
I agree with certain parts in theory, but it's been pretty well proven that the places with more restriction on drinking age and other alcohol restrictions have more alcoholics than places with very little of them. I don't know. Personally I like how canada does it. As I understand it, they don't give a shit about you drinking (they have the 19 year-old drinking age but they were trying to sell my cousin who looks about 12 booze the whole time we were there), but man, you best not drive even buzzed or they will nail you hard.

You make a good point, Max. When people are told not to do something that's when the real problem with that activity starts. Instead of making drinking this "off-limits" activity until one turns a certain age, why not create a culture of responsible drinking? If you've never had a drink in your life, when you turn 21 then you have no idea what to do with the stuff. Not to say that anyone (hell, the majority of people) don't drink before this age; that's even worse. Not only do you not know what you're doing, but you're also still a kid. Living in a free society should mean that instead of restricting ones use of certain things or participating in certain activities more time should be invested in informing the younger generation without condescention about the dangers of and precautions one should take while doing such things. Now, as far as drunk driving is concerned, I think it's the general concensus (try to find someone who disagrees) that it is wrong and dangerous to everyone. Having devices installed in cars that revoke ones ability to drive that car when one is intoxicated to a certain level is a good idea. Now, yes this is putting a restriction in contradiction to a previous statement, but on this issue I don't think a debade exists as to the safety of the activity.

I really do agree with what you said, clairekincaid, but I think that that already happens. I don't know about others' family and school programs but I've gotten it pretty well beaten into my head. I think it's just one of those thing where, when you heard it from a 50+ year old health teacher who obviously spent too much time in california sun, it just doesn't stick.

you guys are squares.

throwing back brews with your buds is one of life's greatest pleasures. getting wasted usually ends in a lot of laughs and a funny story or 2 in my world, not a drunk driving accident or some other tragedy. don't ruin it for the majority of people who can handle their shit.

now drinking responsibily is cool, getting hammered at home is cool, but in the UK they go to their pubs get hammered and piss/shit on the streets and just cause problems. 40% of violent crime in the UK is alcohol related and that figure is increasing. Police in this country are already stretched but to have police having to vreak up fights and pick up drunkards is ridiculous. A ban is not an option as that just goes against our rights but restriction needs to be called for. You know Blair has proposed a 24 hour drinking license and has introduced a on the spot £50 fine for anyone behaving disorderley in the street i.e. drunk.

the last time i peed in the streets was a pretty good story actually... i was in some after hours place in nyc at like 5am. i was talking to some nurse originally from tennessee about 10 years older than me, but still hot... she was drinking straight bourbon and everything.... so she leaves the table and says she is going to get her friend to come over.

i was wasted and decided to get up, ran outside and puked.... the guy at teh door wouldnt let me back in for obvious reasons so i walked around the corner, relieved myself in a secluded area, caught a cab and went back to my buddy's place to crash.
