That's an awesome interview...double dinner dates with Jenny & Johnny and Zoe and Ben? My brain can't handle that. _________________ happiness is not a fish that you can catch. |

I don't know. I feel weird 'cause I think, "I don't know shit about music. Who the hell am I to write about it?" Big Wave is one of my favorites, but I LOVE Animal (one of Rice's tracks) and My Pet Snakes (Jenny's), and Slavedriver is kinda funky and cool. Overall, the record's a big grower imo. I thought it was total shit after my first listen and now I love it and find myself singing different tracks all the time.
Huh. All that and I didn't even answer your question... I suck. |
There's a great scene in the movie Laurel Canyon about just that topic. Francis McDormand's music producer character wants Kate Beckinsale's character's opinion on the album she's working on. Beckinsale's character says something like "oh, I don't know anything about popular music" and McDormand's character says "You know what you like and what you don't like, right? Then you know plenty". (paraphrasing obviously).
Kinda how I feel about music. You really don't need to have some high level degree in music appreciation to offer a quality opinion on it. In fact, I really like reviews that come from the gut and talk about how the album hits you, not the myriad of influences that the album exhibits, or the technical prowess displayed. |

Jenny's vocals on Big Wave sound kinda weird, but I like it. I love Jenny's DUNNADOTTA, DOOTDOODOO at 3:32

I guess I'm going to have to miss the Texas shows; my wife and I are expecting our first baby right around that time. Oh well, I'm sure there will be other shows ... hopefully as Rilo Kiley. |

Why oh why did I buy the limited edition deluxe package? I skipped it for Stars, who I honestly love a lot more than Jenny solo (though they're at the same level as RK).
Sigh. "Only" $50, but my family's broke and this whole pursuing a career in journalism isn't really panning out as I'm still not getting a cent for all my work. Sigh sigh sigh.
Sigh.

That sucks about the no money-for work. Your information and writing on here are so great. I really appreciate it. But I do guess you gotta resist paying for deluxe anything if you're broke.
Yeah, congrats distort, there will be lots of times for shows in the future. _________________ The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining. |

Keep at it Kelley!! It's a real hard time for journalists right now, as you know. I think things will turn around though. I worked for a newspaper for six years before I became a teacher and after a lot of turmoil at the paper, I hear things are starting to level out a little.
Journalism has always been tough to get a foothold in, and anyone who ever got anywhere in the industry got there through hard work and perseverance. If journalism is something you love doing, and it sounds like you do, just keep at it and things will fall into place! |

Chicago already has Love as Laughter, but please please please give us W2K too! I don't want to see any of the others. At all.
ETA: Fuck, the second act is Jaill. It's been too long since I last saw W2K. (I think it was right before Swim came out and I bought the CD at the show. September '08, maybe?) Super bummed right now. |

Not sure if this has been covered in this thread or not, but they're booked into the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in Golden Gate Park (SF for those of you that don't know GGP).
http://www.strictlybluegrass.com
One of the more fun festivals I've ever been to. The tickets go for the low low price of free and in the years I've gone, it's been byob with pretty much no security. Jealous of the Nor Cal-ers right now. So much so I may have to drag my ass out to Cali for that. |

The first European date has been added!
12/12/10 Minehead, United Kingdom - Butlins Holiday Resort
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the Netherlands/Germany... |

BUGGER. i just heard that jenny and johnny will be opening for band of horses, with besnard lakes in toronto. THIS SUCKS. i don't want to see them open for anyone, i want to see them do their own show. i don't even like band of horses either - they're playing a bigger venue, so tickets will be moderately expensive. i'm so bummed. _________________ paramour music on myspace. | last.fm | twitter | blog |

That is a bummer. The last time I saw Rilo Kiley they opened for Modest Mouse, and we got the only stop on their entire tour that they were opening, not headlining, so I feel your pain. _________________ happiness is not a fish that you can catch. |

shitty. however slightly exciting in that i would like them to come on for a phone interview during my college radio show, and this might be easier if in toronto.
also, no wonder they never stop in canada. even when they do, they're booked as openers.
also, also, the besnard lakes rule. i've seen them about four times. one of my all time favourite local bands. _________________ nihilippie.blogspot.com
